Pakistan says train driver's speeding caused deadly crash

Pakistan says a government investigation into a train accident that killed 17 soldiers earlier this month shows the train driver was speeding and that his negligence caused the tragedy.

The spokesman for Pakistan Railways, Aftab Akbar, said on Friday that the train, which was carrying troops, was going too fast when it derailed on July 2 while crossing a bridge and plunged into Chanawan Canal.

The train's driver was also killed in the accident near the industrial city of Gujranwala in eastern Punjab province.

Akbar says investigators ruled out "any possibility of sabotage."
