Croatia considers dropping border arbitration with Slovenia
Croatia threatened on Thursday to withdraw from border arbitration with Slovenia, after a leaked wiretap purported to show a Slovenian judge on the panel exchanging confidential information with the Ljubljana government.
The ad-hoc border arbitration court, set up to smooth Croatia's path to EU entry in 2013 more than 20 years after the break up of Yugoslavia, has three international judges, one from Croatia and one from Slovenia and is meant to be independent of national governments.
Slovenia joined the European Union in 2004 and blocked Zagreb's membership talks in 2008, citing the border dispute over land and sea in the northern Adriatic Piran Bay, where Slovenia wants direct access to international waters.
Both resigned on Thursday without giving any additional statement.
