ICC calls on chief prosecutor to go back on decision not to reopen Mavi Marmara investigation

The International Criminal Court at The Hague called on Chief Prosecutor Fatou Bensouda on Monday to go back on her decision not to reexamine the IDF's conduct during the 2010 raid of the Mavi Marmara.

Bensouda appealed the court's decision, but if her appeal is rejected she would have to reopen the investigation into the Israeli Navy takeover of a Turkish vessel trying to break the blockade over Gaza, in which 10 Turkish citizens were killed.

Following Bensouda's decision, Israeli officials said that "to begin with, there was no place for the court to deal with this issue. Israel acted in self-defense and in accordance with international law."
