Jerusalem's night market

Israel's 1st night market inaugurated in Jerusalem

While a shocking stabbing attack took place in the capital during last week's pride parade, a new artists' market was launched in the city center in a completely different atmosphere.

Last week, all eyes were directed at Jerusalem's Keren Hayesod Street, where a shocking stabbing attack took place during the city's pride and tolerance parade. But at the same time, in a completely different and optimistic atmosphere, Jerusalem inaugurated Israel's first night market.

Dozens of stands were set up along Jaffa Street near the Light Rail route. Fashion and jewelry designers, makeup artists, painters and other artists presented their work from the afternoon hours.

They were accompanied by street artists, human statues and musicians.

The night market will be held every Thursday between Zion Square and Generali Square (Shlomzion Hamalka Street). After the inauguration period, it will be expanded to the entire city center (from Davidka Square to IDF Square and the nearby streets) and will be held on Wednesdays as well.

The night market was initiated by the Jerusalem Municipality in order to create art spaces and an urban culture routine in the city center.

"The opening of the art market along with many other projects launched in the city center in the past year mark, more than anything, visitors' return to the urban, open and inviting space," the Municipality said in a statement last week.
