Monaco, at last, honors Jews deported during Holocaust

Monaco has unveiled a monument to Jews deported from the Riviera principality to Nazi camps during World War II, as part of an effort to shed light at last on a troubling chapter in the country's history.

Prince Albert II presented the monument, carved with names of scores of deportees, at the Monaco cemetery Thursday. The date was chosen to mark 73 years since Monegasque authorities, under orders from Nazi collaborationist leaders in France, rounded up at least 66 Jews on the night of Aug. 27-28, 1942, according to the Monaco palace.
