The dolphin was very ill and weak but his condition had stabilized by Thursday afternoon. The dolphin was receiving constant medicinal treatment along with liquids, in addition to a twice a day treatment in which the dolphin is walked around his pool, which is critical for preventing muscle loss and blood clots. The walk also helps in preventing breathing difficulties, as the dolphin tended to rest only on his right side.
An ultrasound was conducted last night as well as a series of blood tests, which all pointed to a possible lung infection. The volunteers from theIsrael Marine Mammal Research & Assistance Center alongside volunteers from the Israel sea turtle rescue and rehabilitation center had kept a constant watch over the dolphin in order to diagnose any change in his status.
The dolphin had just begun eating hand fed food this morning, but succumbed to his illness and died this afternoon, to the surprise of the volunteers.
"The dolphin was exhausted, so I called the naval police and they came and said they were looking for him for nearly a week," Kaduri continued.
"Then we released the dolphin back into the sea and waited almost three hours until a vet arrived and gave it a shot. They then took him to the pool in Shavei Tzion, and from there to further treatment," he concluded.
The Dolphins body will be taken for an autopsy to confirm the final cause of death.
