Saudi soldier killed in exchange of fire across Yemen border

Saudi Arabia says an exchange of fire across the kingdom's border with Yemen has killed a Saudi soldier.

A statement from the Interior Ministry, carried by state-run media, says the soldier was killed after a Saudi border guard outpost in the southern region of Jizan came under heavy fire from across the border on Thursday.

The Iran-supported Shiite Houthi rebels took over Yemen's capital, Sanaa, last September, and in March a Saudi-led coalition launched a campaign of airstrikes against them.

Several dozen Saudi soldiers have been killed in border attacks since the airstrikes began, mostly by missiles launched by the rebels and their allies in Yemen.
