Liberal Party wins Canada elections, PM Harper to resign party leadership

Canada's Liberal Party is projected to have won the country's federal elections. With 315 of the parliament's 338 seats declared, the Liberal Party has won 177, or 52 percent, at the moment.

Liberal Party leader Justin Trudeau has thus become Canada's Prime Minister-designate. Trudeau is the son of late Canadian Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau.

Following his party's loss, Prime Minister Stephen Harper has resigned as leader of the Conservative Party. He is still expected to serve as a regular member of the Canadian parliament.
