The app is similar to the language-learning app Duolingo, in that it teaches you stage by stage. After a few lessons, you should be able to play a few simple tunes.

One of JoyTunes’s founders, Yigal Kaminka, told Ynet, “The application teaches you from stage one. It has videos that explain where to put your hand, how to sit – the very basics. It’s like going to a music teacher. The app teaches you how to plat simple songs as well as advanced ones. It teaches you how to play more complex songs, such as Imagine by John Lennon. What we bring is free piano lessons in every home.”

JoyTunes mentions that Simply Piano’s target audience is people aged 18-50, including those with no prior experience. Prior applications might have only supported the iPad, but not every iPhone can be used, with the app automatically discerning what kind of instrument you’re playing.

JoyTunes’s Tel Aviv offices have an appropriately musical feel, with a recording studio, a piano, keyboard, and even a DJ table. It was founded by Yuval Kaminka, Roey Izkovsky, and Yigal Kaminka.
