Israeli startup launches disposable cellphone charger

Mobeego's charger enables users to cheaply power up their phones for up to four hours; it is environmentally friendly and can be discarded at any mobeego point of sale.

Israeli startup mobeego launched Monday their disposable cellphone charger in Israel and abroad, enabling one to charge one's cellphone for up to four hours for about NIS 10.

Mobeego described its product as an “energy drink for the mobile phone” and the charging unit is even designed in the form of a can of energy drink. The charger is intended to be a cheap, simple, immediate and environmentally friendly solution for continuous smartphone use, without the need for a regular charger, preloading the phone with a cable or having to find an electrical outlet.

The company says the battery is suitable for both Google Android and Apple iOS smartphones as well as most old cellphones.

Mobeego plans to establish franchise-based distribution systems in Israel and throughout the world, especially in the developed countries. mobeego is already in advanced negotiations with potential franchisees in various countries such as the United States, Israel, Germany, France and South Africa. At first the company intends to sell hundreds of thousands of chargers in the coming months and millions of units per year during 2016.

Mobeego was founded in 2014 by a team of Israeli entrepreneurs. Its headquarters are in Ashdod and its production center is in China. The company's goal is to ensure that battery power is available for cellphone users so that a user does not get stuck without power during the day.

Aside from convenience stores and kiosks, the chargers will be sold at public transport stations, vending machines, hospitals, airports, cinemas, theaters, stadiums, and entertainment venues.

.

Mobeego also launched another version of its charger, enabling one to charge action cameras such as GoPro Hero and Xiaomi Yi. The company said that they intend to market their charger to extreme sporting goods stores and ski resorts, in order to ensure extreme sports enthusiasts don't miss a moment they lack battery power.

To protect the environment, each user will be able to throw the can of cellular energy at a mobeego-dedicated point of sale. The Israeli startup is currently developing a new model that is soon to be launched. In this model, the company intends to return a deposit to those users who recycle the battery.

.

The mobeego charger has two simple elements. One is a tiny adapter suitable for both Android and Apple smartphones, that connects to the phone's charging outlet. Mobeego recommends making a one-time purchase of the adapter for NIS 20 (which includes one free charging unit) and to keep it in a readily available place such as a purse, bag or keychain.

The second element is the charging unit, which is mounted onto the adapter and attaches to the bottom of the phone, and whose price is expected to be about NIS 10. The charging unit allows you to continue using your mobile device while charging the battery. The charger provides one to four hours of power, depending on the intensity of use of the battery. The company said the charging unit can be used for up to ten years in the event the consumer buys the unit for future use or backup.
