Anonymous declares war on Islamic State after Paris attacks

The hacker group has sworn to embark on a massive operation against Islamic State: 'This is a declaration of war. Prepare yourselves.'

Global hacker group Anonymous publicly declared war against the Islamic State terror group on Saturday night, following the terror attacks in Paris last Friday that killed at least 129 and wounded more than 300.

In a message broadcast in French, Anonymous promised to initiate a massive operation against IS: "This is a declaration of war. Prepare yourselves. The French people are stronger than you and will emerge from this horror even stronger."

The message, which was published on YouTube and elsewhere, continued: "Members of Anonymous from across the world will chase you. You need to know that we will find you and that there will be no escape."

Anonymous tweets its declaration of war against Islamic State.

Anonymous also sent out messages from its Twitter account on Monday morning saying that it had long been at war with IS.

In January, following the terror attacks in Paris that targeted the Charlie Hebdo headquarters and a kosher supermarket, a YouTube video posted by Anonymous said it had “declared war” against “al-Qaeda, Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) and other terrorists.”

It vowed to would take down websites and social media accounts linked to the terror groups, and called the operation #OpCharlieHebdo.

Anonymous has also threatened Israel in the past. One of the most recent incidents was last March, when the group published a short film declaring: "We are punishing the Zionists for their treatment of the Palestinians, as in the last war in Gaza in 2014."

The masked man in the video also said that Israel would experience an "electronic Holocaust" on April 7, 2015.
