Severe weather along Saudi coast claims 3 lives

Severe weather along Saudi Arabia's Red Sea coast claimed three lives on Tuesday, including an 11-year-old child who drowned, and forced schools and universities to suspend classes, the country's Civil Defense said.

The other two who died were electrocuted by a lamp post in the coastal city of Jiddah. The child drowned in the western province of Yanbu, apparently due to a valley flooding.

Saudi authorities said another two children are missing in the northwestern province of Ha'il, while a third child was rescued from a flooded valley there.

Saudi Arabia's emergency response crews advised residents to stay indoors as heavy rains pounded areas along the kingdom's Red Sea coastline. The area experienced deadly floods in 2009.
