Netanyahu-Bennett government has no solution for this intifada

Op-ed: The right-wing government which promised us security is incapable of providing it; a different government would have perhaps started looking for other ways to get out of this situation.

It has already become a routine. The question is not whether there will be a terror attack today, but how many and where. We have gotten used to it. To the breaking news every hour. To the reports from the scenes of the attacks, which are accepted as an expected part of the agenda.

Today it's already clear that terror makes no distinction: A boy, a young woman, a soldier, an elderly person, a worshipper at a synagogue and even an Arab - a victim of misidentification. And the perpetrators on the other side, like their victims, are of the same diverse profile: A boy, young women, an elderly woman or a man with children.

Like in the previous intifadas, we are looking for a name for this intifada as well, which has already claimed 23 victims. It's time to stop the foolishness which keeps calling it a "wave of terror." Those who really insist on avoiding the word "intifada" can choose "a war of terror." But it's an intifada, and there is no reason not to adopt the term which is repeating itself for the third time, even if there is no name to define this type of intifada, as the weapons range from a knife and scissors to cars and firearms.

The perpetrators' motivations seem diverse too: From despair and hopelessness to mental distress, from a revenge attack to suicide. And that's another thing which makes this wave of violence almost impossible to eradicate. Because how can you deal with two 14-year-old and 16-year-old girls who instead of shopping for clothes, as their mother said, choose to pick up scissors and deal with death, knowing that it could also lead to their own death?

This is an uprising in the full sense of the word, an intifada which includes everything, and we have yet to see it all.

What we are seeing is that the right-wing government which promised us security is incapable of providing it. It isn't acting more efficiently or firmly than any other government we could have had at this time, apart from the possibility that a different government would have perhaps started looking for other ways to get out of this situation.

We should give Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Moshe Ya'alon credit for not being tempted by ministers and coalition members' proposals - from annexation and Imposing sovereignty on Area C to a second Operation Defensive Shield - which would only add fuel to the fire and escalate the violence.

The Netanyahu-Ya'alon-Bennett government has no security response, period, and we should internalize that. If we're expecting magic solutions or a one-stroke solution, we should grow up.

And the proof that there is no solution is the way the Right is trying to link the terror attacks in Europe to the Palestinian uprising. Because if it's part f a global uprising, we shouldn't do anything. We can keep managing the crisis until the next time. This is the last refuge of the scoundrels - looking for a link between the outbursts of terror here and there. The claim that there is no difference is deceptive.

There is no common ground between the Palestinians and the Islamic State organization. And contrary to what is happening in Brussels and Paris, if we had a peace process going on here, or at least sincere attempts to emerge from the stalemate, it's possible that this uprising, this intifada, this wave of terror, wouldn't have broken out.
