MK Hazan mocks MK Elharar’s disability
Likud MK spoke derogatorily to the disabled Yesh Atid MK, whom he accused of double-voting last week, when she was aided by an MK who sat next to her.
Hazan, whose father, former MK Yehiel Hazan, was part of a double-vote controversy in the early 2000s, accused MK Elharar of conspiring to double-vote last week, when she was aided by another MK sitting next to her, Issawi Farij of Meretz, due to her disability.
Hazan’s behavior continued on the night between Monday and Tuesday. During the vote on amending the draft law, Hazan mocked Elharar again, asking her, "Do you need Issawi to help you?" referring to his accusation from the week before.
In response, the head of Elharar's party, MK Yair Lapid, went to Knesset Speaker Yuli Edelstein and complained about Hazan, saying, “One MK sits here, consistently mocking the disability of another. You can’t do nothing about this. He’s sitting there laughing at her.”
Edelstein answered Lapid by saying he also had a problem with it, and that Lapid should file a complaint. “A complaint will be filed, and you need to throw him out of here,” Lapid said.
Hazan responded on Twitter, writing, “Lapid and Buji (the commoly-used nickname of Zionist Union leader MK Isaac Herzog) are competing in whiney behavior. Yahir (“conceited” in Hebrew, a pun that is based on the word rhyming with MK Lapid’s first name, Yair), who doesn’t take the nightly defeats well, ran to whine about me to the Knesset speaker: Send him out..send him out.. does anyone have a tissue?”
Elharar responded to Hazan on Tuesday by saying, “I came to work for the public and I don’t want to deal with this s***.”
Elharar’s associates said of MK Hazan that “The thing is, there’s a ruling party with a Knesset member whom they don’t know what to do with. They’re deathly afraid that he’ll get up and leave some vote, and they don’t know what to do with him. He makes offensive comments to MK Elharar, Herzog commented to him, Lapid spoke to him. In what proper country can this loathsome creature be a member of the Knesset?”
MK Hazan said in response that “I never contacted MK Elharar and said the things that were written about me, it’s a total lie. As someone who spent two thirds of his life in hospitals, and as a brother to a disabled IDF veteran, I have never harmed or, God forbid, mocked her disability or anyone else’s. Those who know me know that it’s light years away from me, and as much as they try to pin it on me. It won’t take because it’s simply not true. I personally apologize if anyone was hurt by these false publications, sadly you were misled.”
