Likud MK Yisrael Katz

Transport Min. calls for curfew on Palestinians in areas of attacks

Likud MK Yisrael Katz is calling for a change in government policies in the West Bank due to the ongoing wave of terror. Among other things, Katz is proposing a curfew on every area that has produced terrorists, restricting the movement of Palestinians and freezing work permits. 'Whoever gives a pass to terror will pay the price,' Katz says.

Transportation Minister Yisrael Katz, a Likud MK and a member of the security cabinet, on Friday called for the government to change its policies in the West Bank after eight soldiers were wounded in two vehicular attacks earlier in the day.

Principle among Katz's proposals was for a total curfew to be imposed on areas which have produced terrorists. Katz also called for Palestinians to be banned from using roads on which attacks have taken place and demanded the freezing of Israeli work permits for residents of areas under curfew.

"We cannot allow a situation in which security personnel and Israeli citizens are exposed to being stabbed and run over because of the desire to let the Palestinian population live their lives as normal," Katz said.

"Whoever gives terrorism a pass and doesn't prevent it will pay the price until the terror stops," he added. "Furthermore, terrorists' families should be deported to Gaza along with whoever assisted them.

"We must also act forcefully against incitement, including within areas under Palestinian Authority control," Katz continued.

The first attack on Friday took place at around 7:30am, when two soldiers were lightly wounded in a vehicular attack near Ma'ale Adumim after a Palestinian attempted to run them over at a bus stop near the settlement. He crashed into the bus stop where the soldiers were standing, hitting the concrete barriers placed there to stop such attacks.

He then exited the car and ran towards the soldiers wielding a knife, but dropped it. He was shot and killed by a civilian who was at the scene.

The second attack occurred around12:30pm, when a Palestinian rammed his car into IDF troops at the entrance to the Beit Ummar refugee camp near Kiryat Arba, south of the Gush Etzion junction, wounding four moderately and one lightly.

The Palestinian Authority announced on Thursday that the number of Palestinians killed during the current wave has crossed the 100 mark, including terrorists, protesters who clashed with Israeli security forces and Arab-Israelis who took part in attacks against Israeli citizens.

The IDF has stated that it is trying as much as possible to limit the number of deaths and is conducting training in this regard.
