NIS 400,000 raised in two weeks for synagogue in memory of slain teen
Israeli public mobilizes to raise money to complete the construction of a synagogue in memory of Tair Rada, who was murdered in 2006 when she was only 13; work continues around the clock, to allow her dying father to be there for the synagogue's opening.
A fundraising campaign to build a synagogue in memory of Tair Rada, a 13-year-old girl murdered in 2006, raised NIS 400,000 in just two weeks.
Two weeks ago, Yedioth Ahronoth reported that Shmuel Rada, Tair's father, was suffering from terminal cancer, and that he wished he would live long enough to take part in the opening of a synagogue in Katzrin in memory of his daughter. However, additional money was still needed to complete the synagogue's construction.
Following the report, NIS 400,000 were raised in just two weeks, enough to cover the construction.
In addition, Israeli singer Peer Tasi decided to donate proceeds from his December 15 concert at Kiryat Shmona's cultural center to the synagogue's construction.
The price of each ticket is NIS 80, and the hall has 600 seats - and it is estimated that the show will sell out. "The mobilization is exceptional and even residents from the center of the country are trying to reserve tickets," said the center's director Meir Marciano.
The synagogue's dedication is set for January 4, what would have been Tair's 23rd birthday, and the construction work is going on around the clock.
Due to his worsening health, Tair's father is now hospitalized. "I sincerely hope that Shmuel will enter the doors of the synagogue," said Tair's mother, Ilana Rada. "His condition is very bad, but it's all in God's hands. The love and support he receives strengthens his spirit. Shmuel wants nothing else but to realize his dream of attending the opening of the synagogue."
Tair Rada was murdered at her school in Katzrin in the Golan Heights in 2006 when she was 13 years old. Following a long and complicated trial, the court sentenced Roman Zadorov, a maintenance worker at the school, to life imprisonment for her murder.
