Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke about the controversy surrounding Republican US presidential candidate Donald Trump's anti-Muslim remarks, and the two's upcoming meeting. Netanyahu's office said that "The Prime Minister rejects trumps statements. The state of Israel respects all religions and strictly protects the rights of all its citizens. Meanwhile, Israel is combating extremist Islam, which attacks Muslims, Christians, and Jews all, and threatens the entire world."
The statement continued, "The Prime Minister has set a uniform policy to agree to meeting requests with all US presidential candidates who come to Israel. This policy does not reflect support of candidates or their positions, but expresses the importance that the Prime Minister attributes to the strong alliance between Israel and the US."
