Hamas leader, Turkish president meet as Israel and Turkey signal reconciliation

Hamas leader Khaled Mashal on Saturday met with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Istanbul, possibly because of the revelation this week that Turkey and Israel are moving towards reconciliation after five years of estrangement.

Hamas has thus far refrained from commenting on this expected reconciliation. A senior member of the group in Gaza, Mahmoud al-Zahar, said Friday that Hamas is waiting for an official statement from Turkey.
