Defense minister approves new Navy chief

Ya'alon okays a series of appointments in the top echelons of the IDF, including Army commander and the IDF's attaché in the US.

Defense Minister Moshe Ya'alon approved Sunday a series of appointments in the IDF based on recommendations made by military chief Gadi Eisenkot.

 

 

Brig.-Gen. Eli Sharvit will become the new commander of the Israeli Navy, receiving the rank of major general. Sharvit will be replacing the Navy's commander for the past five years, Maj.-Gen. Ram Rothberg.

Maj.-Gen. Yaakov (Koby) Barak will become the new Army commander, replacing Maj.-Gen. Guy Tzur who has been filling the post for the past three years.

 

Barak will be replaced at helm of the Technological and Logistics Directorate in the IDF by Brig.-Gen. Aharon Haliva, who will be promoted to the rank of major general.

 

Brig.-Gen. Nadav Padan will become the head of the Computer Service Directorate and promoted to the rank of major-general, replacing Maj.-Gen. Uzi Moscovitch who has been filling the post for the past four years.

 

Brig.-Gen. Mickey Edelstein will become the IDF's attaché in the US and promoted to the rank of major-general. He will be replacing Maj.-Gen. Yaakov Ayish, who has been filling the post for the past four years.
