Hezbollah denies reports of IAF attacks in Qalamoun area

Syrian opposition circles have been spreading many reports since Kuntar's assassination of Israeli airstrikes against Hezbollah posts in Syria.

Hezbollah has denied unconfirmed Syrian opposition reports that Israel attacked seven of the organization's posts in the western Qalamoun Mountains region in Syria, Lebanese TV network Al Mayadeen reported on Saturday. Similar denials of the attack appeared in other media in Lebanon.

The reports of the alleged Israeli attacks spread through social media pages affiliated with the Syrian opposition on Saturday after an increased activity of the IAF was noted over Lebanon on Saturday morning.

Since the airstrike that killed Samir Kuntar on the outskirts of Damascus last week, which was attributed to Israel, a lot of reports have been coming from Syrian opposition circles about Israeli attacks against Hezbollah posts in the western Qalamoun Mountains. These reports, however, have mostly been ignored by the main Arab media.

While Hezbollah-affiliated media did issue denials of IAF attacks in the same area, these denials are not common. It is possible that following the assassination of Kuntar, which Hezbollah was quick to report and attribute to Israel, the organization does not want to create the impression that it is looking the other way from alleged IAF attacks.

Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah threatened to retaliate for Kuntar's assassination, on which he said that "there is no doubt Israel is responsible for."

The terror organization is expected to hold a memorial ceremony for Kuntar, marking a week to his death. The ceremony will be held in the Hezbollah stronghold of Dahieh, and Nasrallah is once again expected to speak.

Meanwhile, a European diplomat told Kuwaiti newspaper Al-Qabas on Saturday that Hezbollah has received messages through official Lebanese channels not to launch a revenge attack against Israel for Kuntar's assassination.
