Residents in southern Lebanon captured an engdangered eagle released from Israel

A griffon vulture imported from Spain to Israel as part of a breeding program for endangered eagles that was released last month, was captured Tuesday near Bint Jbeil in southern Lebanon by locals. According to a local news site, residents released the eagle after discovering that the transmitter on its back is intended for scientific research and not espionage.

The Israel Nature and Parks Authority indicated that the eagle needs veterinary treatment and that a sign of life has still not been received from it.
