An 11-year-old boy was stabbed on Monday afternoon in Ramla. The boy told police that he was attacked by an Arab man.
The boy said he was walking down the street when an Arab man approached him and asked him whether he had a light. When the boy responded to the negative, the man reportedly pulled out a sharp object and stabbed him several times in the back.
The motives behind the attack are still unclear, but a 17-year-old suspect from the Jawarish neighborhood was arrested.
The boy was evacuated to the Assaf HaRofeh Medical Center in moderate condition.
Ramla Mayor Yoel Lavi "This is a second event in a short period of time and I'm hoping it's not the beginning of a trend. At this stage the motives behind the incident are unclear and to our understanding it appears more like it's criminal in nature."
In Jerusalem, a police and Border Police force operating at the Damascus Gate arrested a 42-year-old Arab woman from East Jerusalem caught with a knife.
The force noticed the Arab woman, who was acting suspiciously, and approached her while keeping a safe distance. When they searched her, they found a large knife.
She was taken for questioning at the David District station.
