The Jerusalem municipality says a Kenyan runner, 25-year-old Kipkogey Shadrack, won this year's marathon in the holy city with a time of 2:16:33.
Main roads closed for traffic Friday as the race weaved through central Jerusalem and the cobblestone alleyways of the Old City.
About 25,000 athletes from Israel as well as a record 2,500 foreign visitors took part, Jerusalem city spokeswoman Brachie Sprung said ahead of the event.
Police said over a thousand officers secured the sporting event, which comes amid six months of near-daily Palestinian attacks on civilians and security forces.
