Polish prosecutor questions scholar over Holocaust remarks

WARSAW - A Polish prosecutor has questioned a Polish-American scholar to try to determine if he committed the crime of publicly insulting the nation with a statement on Polish violence against Jews during World War II.

Princeton professor Jan Tomasz Gross told The Associated Press that he was questioned for five hours Tuesday in Katowice but still does not know if he will be charged in the case.

Multiple complaints were filed with prosecutors over an article in which Gross said Poles killed more Jews during the German occupation of their country than they killed Germans.

Separately, Poland's president is also considering stripping Gross of a state honor he received in 1996, but has not yet made a decision in that case, the president's office said Wednesday.
