CHARLESTON, South Carolina - A US military school is considering a request from a new student that longstanding uniform requirements be tweaked to allow her to wear a traditional Muslim headscarf.
Citadel spokeswoman Kim Keelor said Friday that an incoming freshman who's been accepted for this year's term has asked to be allowed to wear a head covering.
Keelor says as far as she knows, it's the first time such a request has been made, though the school has had a number of other Muslim students.
Keelor said a decision could be made in the next couple of weeks. She did not release the student's name.
Citadel students are required to wear the uniforms at nearly all times.
