French president Hollande: Mideast peace summit postponed to the summer

None

French President Francois Hollande said Tuesday that the planned Middle East peace summit planned for May 30 has been postponed to the summer.

US Secretary of State John Kerry "cannot come on May 30, so it is delayed. It will take place in the summer. This initiative is necessary," Hollande said on Europe 1 radio.

While the Palestinians welcome the summit—that will include representatives of the Quarter, the UN Security Council, the Arab League and 20 other countries but will not include Israel or the Palestinians—Israel opposes the conference, which it says will allow the Palestinians to avoid having to negotiate and compromise.
