Belgian court uphold kosher slaughter

The Belgian constitutional court has rejected a proposed bill banning kosher slaughter of animals in the country. Members of the Belgian parliament wanted the law stating that an animal must be shocked before being killed to apply to Jewish slaughterhouses as well, even thought the act is in opposition to Jewish religious law. Jewish organizations turned to the courts, which decided that such an expansion of the law would be a violation of religious liberty.
