US reviews Turkish extradition request for Gulen

The White House is reviewing material from Turkey to determine whether it amounts to a formal extradition request for a US-based Muslim cleric Fetullah Gulen, which Turkey's president blames for the coup plot against him.
White House spokesman Josh Earnest said Tuesday the materials were presented as Presidents Barack Obama and Recep Tayyip Erdogan spoke by telephone.
Secretary of State John Kerry has said the US would entertain such a request if the Turks provide evidence of wrongdoing.
Earnest said the Justice and State Departments are reviewing the materials, adding that a decision on whether to extradite would be made under a long-standing treaty between the two countries, and wouldn't be made by Obama.
