Group urges police to investigate Muslim threats

None

WESTBROOK, Maine - A civil rights group that advocates for the interests of Muslims is calling on authorities to look into written threats against the Islamic community in Maine.

Typewritten notes urging violence against Muslims were discovered at an apartment complex in Westbrook on Wednesday. Police say they are investigating the threats as a hate crime, but they don't see evidence of any immediate threat.

The Council on American-Islamic Relations says local, state and federal authorities should seek to bring the perpetrator to justice.

The threats came two days after federal court documents unsealed in Portland revealed that former Maine resident Adnan Fazeli was fighting for ISIS when he was killed last year in Lebanon.

He was an Iranian who came to Maine as a refugee in 2009.
