Istanbul police detain dozens as part of coup probe

 

ISTANBUL -- Turkey's state-run news agency says police have detained dozens at Turkey's banking regulatory agency and at one of Istanbul's largest universities as part of an investigation into the July 15 abortive coup which killed over 270 people.

 

Anadolu Agency said 29 auditors at the Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency were detained early Monday for allegedly conducting "irregular probes" in 2013 into businessmen and foundations that are close to the government.

 

Meanwhile, detention orders were issued for 62 academics working at Istanbul University as part of the same investigation. Police detained 44 of them Monday morning.
