In light of the current turmoil over train work on Shabbat, officials within the government have reported that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman (Yisrael Beytenu) have decided to provide IDF soldiers with transportation on Saturday evenings and Sundays from the inoperative train stations.
Netanyahu and Lieberman's supposed decision is an attempt not to hinder IDF mobilization while still adhering to the demands of the ultra-Orthodox parties in the Coalition, which have come out against working on the train system during Shabbat.
The move does not offer a transportation solution for Israel's civilian population.
