MK Itzik Shmuli (Labor) took part in a cultural event in Be'er Sheva on Saturday, where he criticized former head of the joint left-wing party Meretz-Yachad Yossi Beilin, who, referring to Binyamin "Fuad" Ben-Eliezer who passed away on Sunday, said he was "an aggessive politician who should never have been nomiated for president."
Shmuli came out aginst Beilin's statement, saying, "The only expressions of joy that were made (over Ben-Eliezer's death) came from the Hamas and Beilin. He is a small man who took the opportunity to pounce in a very ugly way for petty reasons."
Shmuli continued by saying that "I don't think it'll only hurt Yossi Beilin, but the Labor party and the left in general. Beilin needs to think about what he did and be ashamed of himself. Even his own son found it necessary to criticze him."
