Fawn of peace

A Palestinian who accidentally hit a fawn decided to leave politics behind and passed the injured baby deer to a settler field school in nearby Gush Etzion; the fawn is expected to make fully recovery.

It all started when a Palestinian from one of the villages near Gush Etzion in the West Bank hit a fawn by accident while driving his tractor. He immediately stopped, took the fawn and cared for it for a month until it began to recover.

In order for the fawn to get the care it needs, the Palestinian man decided to give the deer to a local Israeli field school.

Yaron Rosenthal, the head of the field school who received the deer, said that the fawn was in relatively good condition and looked like it had undergone treatment.

"This is a fawn that was born recently—probably only a few weeks old," said Rosenthal, who added that he was happy about the cooperation. "This is a very rare case, normally Palestinians don't come to us wanting to save wildlife."

The Palestinian man wished to remain anonymous and was very apprehensive when he arrived to drop off the injured fawn.

However, according to Rosenthal, it paid off and the fawn will get the care it needs. Soon after arriving at the field school, it was taken to the veterinary hospital at the Jerusalem Biblical Zoo.

Rosenthal added, "We are calling on all members of the public—both Jewish and Arab—to contact us as soon as possible when finding an injured animal so we can provide help."
