ISTANBUL -- The European Union's foreign policy chief says the 28-member bloc and Turkey agree that there can be no military solution to the Syrian conflict and that only a political solution can bring peace to the war-torn country.
Federica Mogherini said Friday after talks with Turkey's ministers of foreign and EU affairs that the EU and Turkey agreed to work together on forging a cease-fire in Syria.
She said there should be a transition from the current Syrian leadership and that the country's territorial integrity and unity must be ensured and all minorities protected in an inclusive and non-sectarian country.
