IDF hits Hamas targets in Gaza

After a mortar shell fired from the strip explodes in the Eshkol Regional Council Wednesday evening, Israeli fighter jets launch reprisal attacks overnight, taking out three Hamas terror targets.

The IDF launched a fresh wave of airstrikes overnight Wednesday against three Hamas terror targets in the Gaza Strip. The move comes as a retaliation for the firing of artillery shells on the Eshkol Regional Council late Wednesday.

The IDF spokesperson’s Unit said that it held Hamas exclusively responsible for all activities in the strip and would continue to operate in a determined manner in order to maintain peace and quiet for Israel’s southern residents.

The mortar shells exploded near the border fence shortly before midnight Wednesday but no red alert siren was sounded. No injuries nor damage were reported and the residents were not provided with any irregular instructions.

The airstrikes were launched against a Hamas military outpost in Shuja'iyya and Hamas security apparatus targets adjacent to the security fence. No injuries were reported as a result of the reprisal attacks.

Three weeks ago, the IDF pounded 50 Hamas targets in the strip following the launching of a missile into Sderot.

According to reports, one of the targets was a military outpost belonging to Hamas’s security apparatus, as well as that belonging to Islamic Jihad operating in the strip. Palestinians claimed that a 17-year-old was lightly injured in the strike.

Addressing the Hamas threat, Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman recently said, “It cannot be that we expect that the State of Israel allows them to arm and steal money from the Gaza residents. They collect taxes and rather than build houses then build tunnels.”
