The Israel Police has questioned over 20 suspects – including Balad leaders, lawyers, and accountants - as part of an ongoing investigation into the party's financial practices and possible malfeasance related to them.
The investigation began with the approval of former Attorney General Yehuda Weinstein. Its catalyst was a State Comptroller report which indicated that there were millions of Shekels received by the party from different sources in Israel and abroad which were falsely reported as donations.
Balad is a political party associated with the Israeli-Arab sector. It is currently one of the Knesset factions comprising the Joint List party.
