Pakistan says India can't wish away Kashmir rift

Pakistan's foreign ministry has criticized India for terming Pakistan a "terrorist state" during the UN General Assembly. An Indian diplomat did so late Wednesday after Pakistan demanded a UN investigation of India's suppression of protests in disputed Kashmir.

The foreign ministry said in its statement Friday that India's words cannot alter the facts of Kashmir's status and the dispute cannot be "wished away." It further said Kashmir's people have the right to self-determination and that Pakistan will continue its diplomatic and political support of them.

The portion of Kashmir under India's control has had its largest protests in years after Indian forces killed a popular rebel leader in July.
