Israel has given Taiwan a donation of 117 earthquake-resistant tables, as a gesture of solidarity with the country ahead of its independence day on October 10, and in commemoration of the 117 victims of the quake that hit Taiwan in February.

The tables will be used by three schools in the city of Tainan, which was damaged in the earthquake.

Of the February quake's 117 victims, 115 lost their lives when a 17-story building in Tainan collapsed. The donated tables were designed by a student at the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design in Jerusalem as part of his final project.

The tables design was then patented and sold to AD Meraz Industries. They are said to be resistant to loads of up to one ton.
