Stabbing attack, violent protests at Kalandia checkpoint

A Palestinian man reportedly stabbed an IDF soldier at the checkpoint separating the West Bank and Jerusalem; the attacker was shot and killed by security forces at the scene, and the soldier is said to have been moderately wounded; later on, violent protests broke out at the checkpoint.

A 28-year-old Palestinian man stabbed a 20-year-old IDF soldier at the Kalandia checkpoint on the border of the northern West Bank and Jerusalem Friday night.

 

 

The attacker was shot and neutralized by security forces at the checkpoint. He later died of his wounds.

 

The soldier was moderately wounded in the stabbing, and was evacuated to the hospital. He is said to be in stable condition.

An initial investigation of the incident indicates that the attacker arrived to the checkpoint and ran on foot through the vehicle passageway. He proceeded to stab a soldier who was there, and was then shot by other security personnel at the scene.

 

The checkpoint closed down following the attack. Violent protests are said to have then broken out at the site, with about 200 Palestinians throwing stones at security forces, who used riot dispersal means in order to quell the unrest.
