The Population and Immigration Authority released on Thursday the most popular names chosen for babies born in Israel over the past Jewish year of 5776. The data shows both the overall most popular names and those that are most popular in the Jewish sector.
The most popular names for girls was Tamar for the third year in a row. This name took first place from Noa, which had been in that position for the preceding 14 years.
The most popular name for boys, like last year, was Mohammed, an overwhelming favorite for Muslim Israelis. Amongst the Jewish sector, that position was taken by Ori/Uri (which are written identically in Hebrew).
