Inside of a Sukkah

New Sukkot initiative to assist hungry hikers

Hiking, hungry and thirsty during Sukkot with no Sukkah in sight during the festive period is a common phenomenon; thanks to a new online altruistic initiative, this problem will soon become a thing of the past.

With the festival of Sukkot approaching, and as people prepare to embark on a their long treks during the festive period, many will be familiar with the recurring problem of yearning for a midway break and a bite to eat, only to be struck with the reality that there is no Sukkah in sight.

In an effort to remedy this problem, many religious and traditional people have created a brand new initiative in the form of a website enabling people to locate others who are willing to host thirsty and hungry hikers on their way and enjoy their packed meals in their Sukkah.

The concept, dubbed ‘Sukka on the way,’ is part of a start-up of a new website known as ‘Kippah’ in cooperation with the ‘Olam Katan’ (Small World) and the organization Community of Rabbis which was only recently launched.

So how does it work?

Participants on the website ‘Kippah’ can register their address on a map tool displayed on the website along with their contact details.

Those wishing to utilize the voluntary services are required to enter the website and search for Sukkahs for use in their areas, establish contact with the volunteers and inform them of their intended arrival, and—Bon Apetite.

The website is aiming to gather as many Sukkah-hosters as possible ahead of the festival.

People are also able to be hosted in the ‘loaned’ Sukkot even without having registered on the website. The creators of the idea expect however, that those who do benefit from the goodwill of their hosts will be prepared to reciprocate in the future.

The initiative’s founders say that they were inspired to create the project to alleviate the problem of hunger on long hikes which has becoming increasingly common over the years.
