Bosnia's administrator condemns honoring of war criminals

Bosnia's top international official has condemned the Bosnian Serb parliament's decision to decorate indicted and convicted war criminals for their contribution in forming that institution in 1992.

Among those honored were genocide convict Radovan Karadzic and several aides who were also convicted by the UN war crimes tribunal in The Hague of war crimes committed against non-Serbs while carving up the Bosnian Serb mini-state Republika Srpska.

Tuesday's statement from the office of Austrian diplomat Valentin Inzko, who oversees Bosnia's peace agreement, said the act was unacceptable in the modern and civilized world. It said that by glorifying war criminals the Bosnian Serb parliament placed itself "outside of the realm of European and civilized values."
