Bahrain opposition leader fears 'whitewash' of crackdown

MANAMA- A leader in Bahrain's secular opposition tells The Associated Press he fears a royal visit by Britain's Prince Charles and his wife Camilla could "whitewash" an ongoing crackdown on dissent in the tiny island nation.
Ebrahim Sharif spoke to the AP on Friday, the last day of the royal couple's weeklong trip to Oman, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain.
Sharif belongs to the opposition party Waad. He says he hopes behind closed doors that the Prince of Wales raised human rights issues on his visit.
