The IDF's Criminal Investigation Division (CID) and the Lachish District Police launched an investigation into the break in, and Maj. Gen. Topolanski is expected to be questioned under caution.

The CID is checking whether the laptop and other items stolen from Topolanski's home contain classified information.

This is the third case this year in which expensive military equipment is stolen from a senior IDF officer.

Two months ago, a colonel was suspended from the Air Force after his encrypted military laptop was stolen from his home.

A year ago, the Northern Command's artillery officer, Col. Ilan Levi, was dismissed after classified documents were stolen from his car, though the documents were later returned.
