Former prime minister and convicted fellon Ehud Olmert's legal team has submitted a pardon petition to President Reuven Rivlin. The petition has been transferred to the Justice Ministry for an opinion.
Olmert was convicted of receiving some NIS 500,000 in bribes through his brother, with the judge slamming what he described as a "corrupt political system which has decayed over years... and in which hundreds of thousands of shekels were transferred to elected officials."
After partially accepting Olmert's '15 appeal, the Supreme Court had acquitted Olmert of receiving a NIS 500,000 bribe but upheld his conviction for accepting NIS 60,000, reducing his prison sentence from six years to 18 months.
