Migdal murderer claims in court: 'I'm a cat'

Court sends Nadav Sella, suspected of murdering his wife, two children, and another child, to psychiatric evaluation after he went down on all fours and claimed to be a cat.

Nadav Sella, who is suspected of murdering his wife, their young children and the neighbors' son in Migal, claimed on Wednesday that he was a cat, going down on all fours at court.

The Nazareth District Court extended Sella's remand by 15 days. Over this extended period, Sella is set to undergo a psychiatric evaluation. Prior to deliberations, he also claimed: "I have committed adultery."

Erez Moscovich from the Public Defense Office, who is representing Sella, said that the request for continued observation was submitted by the district psychiatrist.

"I still haven't managed to communicate with him," said the defense attorney. "And I won't be able to respond to anything he said prior to deliberations," he continued.

A week ago, it was cleared for publication that 28-year-old Sella is the suspected murderer of wife Dor, their children Benjamin and Yossef, and the neighbors' son Nahman Atia. At the same time, the gag order placed on the details of the investigation was extended, especially with regard to crime scene findings.

In a prior discussion, conducted last week, Sella said in court, "I beg God for forgiveness."

The horrific murder occurred on a Saturday afternoon about two weeks ago. A MDA team discovered the lifeless bodies of the young 23-year-old mother next to her two young children—an eight-month-old baby and a two-year-old infant. They were declared dead at the scene.

A short time thereafter, the body of the neighbors' son was uncovered as well. Large police forces were called to the family's residence, and a short time later, Sella was arrested in a nearby grove, after being captured by a young man.

After the murder, Sella's family members said that they were "shocked and hurt by the enormity of the tragedy."

In a statement released by the family, they said, "we will probably never be able to process the nightmare engulfing us. We do not have the ability to atone for this heinous act. We ask forgiveness and absolution, and you, our dear grandchildren, daughter-in-law, and neighbors' son, rest in peace. We would very much like to accompany you on your final journey, but out of respect to the families of the deceased, we will have to pass."

Migdal residents who knew Sella said he was "mischievous" in his youth, but no one noted any preliminary signs that would bode such a disaster.

"He attended Nofey Golan high school in Katzrin, like most Migdal teenagers at the time," said a Migdal resident, who added that Sella had not served in the army: "He was a mischievous guy, but not unusually so. He started undertaking the process of repentance after having met Dor, and he drew her along. They returned to religion together."

Another resident recalled that "on Saturday, he prayed right next to us at synagogue. An ordinary man. It is hard to believe something like this could happen. I have known him ever since he was a child. Ordinary, like everyone else. I even know his parents. Poor people. They also lost everything. These were their grandchildren as well. Such a catastrophe has befallen our community."
