Jerusalem District Court has added a year to the sentence of former Ashkenazi Chief Rabbi of Israel Yona Metzger after rejecting the punishment clause in Metzger's plea deal whereby he would serve a prison sentence of only 3.5 years.
The ruling judge stated that if not for the plea deal the punishment would have been 6-9 years instead.
Metzger was convicted of bribery, fraud and breach of trust, and is now sentenced to serve 4.5 years in prison for his crimes.
