Tel Aviv Marathon disruptions

The Tel Aviv Marathon begins Friday at 6:00am and is expected to result in severe disruptions; Police warn that 'it might be difficult to reach educational institutions in Tel Aviv; parents should prepare accordingly.'

The Tel Aviv Marathon is set to take off at 6:00am on Friday and will affect traffic in Tel Aviv. Police warn that "it might be difficult to reach educational institutions in Tel Aviv, due to the road blocks. Parents should prepare accordingly." That said, police stated that schools and kindergartens will open as usual.

 

 

About 40,000 runners and tens of thousands of spectators are expected to attend the race. The major roads around Tel Aviv are going to be blocked until 1:30pm. Residents of the streets through which the runners are set to pass have already been asked to move their vehicles and park them in parallel streets or authorized parking lots. The use of vehicles on the blocked roads and streets is prohibited. Vehicles parked on the roads and highways will be towed.

For the marathon, the following roads will be blocked: Northern region:  Glilot Junction, Yunitzman, 2040, Levi Eshkol and Agnon. Namir will be closed to traffic starting at 8:00am until 10:00am at the intersection between Glilot and Halacha in both directions.

 

In the eastern region: There will be no vehicles from Begin/Namir westward to the following streets: Bnei Ephraim, Rokach Blvd., Pinkas, Arlozerov, Kaplan, Hashmonaim, Harakevet and Colonial Square.

 

Western region: No vehicles will be allowed on the coastal axis of Herbert Samuel, Kaufman.

 

In the southern region: No vehicles will be allowed to travel from south to north on: Jerusalem Ave. from Ben-Zvi, Elifelet from Kibbutz Galuiot, Kaufman / Yarkon from Eilat St., Herzl from Jaffa Road, Allenby from Menachem Begin.

 

Route 20 (the Ayalon Highway) will remain open during all hours of the race traveling north and south.

 

Rockach Blvd. will be blocked to traffic (north and south) from 4:00am to 2:00pm. Merkaz Hayeridim interchange will be blocked towards Ayalon North between 6:00am and 2:00pm. Going into Hashalom interchange may be blocked as well, depending on traffic congestion. Blocks will be noted by the Waze application so drivers are advised to consult the app.

 

Thousands of policemen and policewomen will partake in the marathon as well. During the marathon, police recruitment stands will be set up in the gathering areas, opposite Gane HaTa'arucha.
