Hamas warned Israel that they will impose a new 'mechanism of action' in response to the rocket attacks, which could ultimately escalate the regional situation to the point of conflict.

Hamas-affiliated Al-Majd website posted on Thursday that "the 'mechanism' has red lines. Public opinion in the Gaza Strip sees the need to respond to the IDF attacks, and Israel must understand that the formula has changed and may be based on the principle of an assault for an assault."

In recent months, the IDF has been forcefully responding to Hamas fire from Gaza. Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman told Ynet that"the military strategy I promoted ever since my appointment has been for every rocket, for every provocation, we respond forcefully. Only once Hamas internalizes that with every move they make, with every rocket they fire, they lose out, only then there'll be no war."
At the same time, the Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories, Maj. Gen. Yoav Mordechai, revealed on Thursday in a Facebook post that ISIS-affiliated Hamas member who had been reported dead by Hamas—was actually alive and medically treated by the terror organization in the Gaza Strip. This would entail that "Hamas has been boldly lying to its neighbors and to Egypt."
