Bayit Yehudi leadership primaries moved up

Party Leader Naftali Bennett instructs the director general to move up the primaries to mid-April. With no clear rival, Bennett is all but assured reelection.

Education Minister Naftali Bennett ordered that the primaries for his position in the party he leads, Bayit Yehudi, be moved up, apparently after Passover in mid-April.

His instructions were delivered to the party's director general, Nir Orbach.

Bennett's move seems to be motivated by the lack of any serious challenger for the leadership and to prepare the party for national elections, whenever they will be held.

Party member Minister of Justice Ayelet Shaked welcomed the announcement, calling on the public to take part in the election and support Bennett, to whom she referred as the potential prime minister "after the age of Netanyahu."

According to the party's bylaws, the next leader elected will be at the helm leading into the elections for the next Knesset. The lack of any clear rival for Bennett's position all but assures him reelection.
